If you#8217;re all done with the tweaking and configuring, then it#8217;s time to take your shop live!nbsp; Here#8217;s an Admin System Configuration checklist which you can use once your site is staged, in preparation for going live.nbsp; We#8217;ll go through the back end, section by section and let you know which pieces are relevant and important. /p h3i1: System - Configure - General/i/h3p iGeneral - Website Restrictions/i br / img src="http://www.magentocommerce.com/images/uploads/gen_website_restrict.png" style="border: 0;" alt="image" width="562" height="64" / br / Ensure that the website is not restricted to customers. /p p iWeb - Unsecure URL/i br / img src="http://www.magentocommerce.com/images/uploads/gen_web_unsecured_base.png" style="border: 0;" alt="image" width="581" height="64" / /p p iWeb - Secure URL/i br / img src="http://www.magentocommerce.com/images/uploads/gen_web_secured_base.png" style="border: 0;" alt="image" width="580" height="98" / br / A 100% Signed and Trusted Certificate should be installed in the server when using secure base URL. /p p iWeb - Default Pages/i br / img src="http://www.magentocommerce.com/images/uploads/gen_web_defaultpages.png" style="border: 0;" alt="image" width="581" height="96" / br / The “Home Page” CMS can be redesigned according to your desired look in the Admin panel, under iCMS - Pages - Manage Content - Home page/i /p p iDesign - Package/i br / img src="http://www.magentocommerce.com/images/uploads/gen_design_package.png" style="border: 0;" alt="image" width="581" height="130" / br / If you are running a href="http://www.magentocommerce.com/product/enterprise-edition"Magento Enterprise Edition/a you have so many more features, each with its own template and layout files in the default Enterprise theme.nbsp; Thus, it is necessary to use the “enterprise” package or to synchronize your package with the enterprise package to ensure that all features have their corresponding templates and layout. /p p iDesign - Themes/i br / You can use your own templates, skin and layouts by specifying their name.nbsp; The bdefault/b field should contain a default theme which Magento will use in case the personalized theme you are using is missing template files. br / img src="http://www.magentocommerce.com/images/uploads/gen_design_themes.png" style="border: 0;" alt="image" width="582" height="30" / /p p iDesign - HTML Head/i br / Update the information according to your business information. /p p iDesign - Header/i br / Update the Header details to reflect your business logo, description, etc. /p p The default Enterprise logo is located at /skin/frontend/enterprise/default/images/logo.gif.nbsp; To change this logo, you can either upload a new image named logo.gif or update the bLogo Image Src/b value. /p p iDesign - Footer/i br / Update the Footer details to contain your business information. /p p iStore eMail Addresses/i br / These email addresses will be used in sending and receiving email notifications (i.e. new order, invoice, shipment, credit memo, product price alerts, newsletters, etc.).nbsp; So, make sure to update these fields with valid business email addresses. /p h3i2: System Configuration Sales/i/h3p iInvoice and Packing Slip Design/i br / Ensure that this is configured with your own business information. /p p iTax/i br / Ensure that the Tax configuration settings are properly configured according to your business tax rules.nbsp; a href="http://www.magentocommerce.com/blog/comments/from-the-support-team-tax-rules-configuration-and-settings/"Importing tax rates/a into Magento can easily be done under iSales - Tax - Import / Export Tax Rates/i. /p p iShipping Settings/i br / img src="http://www.magentocommerce.com/images/uploads/sales_ShippingSettings.png" style="border: 0;" alt="image" width="566" height="156" / br / Ensure that the origin section contains the shipping origin of your business. /p p iShipping Methods/i br / Enable the carrier and appropriate shipping methods that your company uses. /p p If you’re giving free shipping to some of these carriers, you can check out a previous article on different ways of a href="http://www.magentocommerce.com/blog/comments/from-the-support-team-boosting-sales-by-offering-free-shipping/"offering free shipping/i.nbsp; Also, you can a href="http://www.magentocommerce.com/blog/comments/from-the-support-team-limiting-free-shipping-to-the-continental-us/"limit free shipping/a to certain countries. /p p iGoogle API/i br / Magento is integrated with Google API to allow your business to use the robust features of google such as Google Analytics, Google Base, Google Checkout, Google Website Optimizer.nbsp; If you wish to use these features, you need to have Google Analytics, Base, amp; Merchant accounts. /p p iPayPal/i br / Same as Google API, Magento is integrated with PayPal to allow your business to use PayPal payment methods.nbsp; If you’re going to use this payment method, ensure that before going live, you aren#8217;t using Sandbox Mode, which is the test mode for testing this payment method. /p p iPayment Methods/i br / Enable the payment method(s) that your company uses and ensure that these payment methods are properly configured (i.e. order status, accepted currency, allowed countries, etc.) /p h3i3: System - Advanced/i/h3p iSystem Cron (Scheduled Tasks)/i – all the times are in minutes br / img src="http://www.magentocommerce.com/images/uploads/advanced_system_Cron.png" style="border: 0;" alt="image" width="718" height="239" / br / Ensure that Cron jobs are set to run at the desired time.nbsp; These cron jobs are critical in ensuring that catalog price rules stick with the product prices, newsletters/customer alerts are sent, Google sitemaps are generated, automatic updating of currency rates, and scheduled database logs are cleaned. /p p For more information about setting up cron jobs, you may refer to a href="http://www.magentocommerce.com/wiki/how_to/how_to_setup_a_cron_job"this page/a on the wiki. /p p iSystem - Log Cleaning/i br / img src="http://www.magentocommerce.com/images/uploads/advanced_system_LogCleaning.png" style="border: 0;" alt="image" width="563" height="246" / br / Log cleaning must be enabled to ensure that your database log tables are cleaned.nbsp;
